Intelligent lighting solutions for industrial and commercial buildings
Continuous rooflights are all the rage. These daylight systems are not only found in commercial and industrial buildings, but also in private residential construction. Modern architecture has rediscovered daylight systems. At the same time, skylight domes are also increasingly coming into focus. No wonder, because: As a supplement to façade windows, continuous rooflights and skylight domes offer the possibility of capturing additional daylight. In addition to extra daylight, skylight domes - or continuous rooflights as a more generous variant - offer options for heat or smoke extraction.
Skylight domes ensure a high level of daylight
The classic solution for opening up flat roofs is the so-called skylight domes. The name is derived from the fact that this daylight opening is not fitted flush into the roof surface. Instead, it is slightly curved upwards - in other words, dome-shaped. The characteristic dome shape ensures a comparatively high incidence of daylight. The curvature of the glass allows an intensive incidence of light even when the sun is low in the sky. Another advantage of the shape: rainwater flows off the skylight dome more easily.
Automated smoke and heat extraction systems
The individual domes differ significantly in terms of functionality. The market offers models that cannot be opened and serve the sole purpose of letting daylight into roof spaces. Other models can be opened and closed. These models are often part of the safety concept and serve as an automatic smoke and heat extraction system (SHEVS). Additional functions and operating options are also possible. For example, the openings in the flat roofs can also provide access for necessary maintenance work. The exit openings are correspondingly large and can also be opened wide. Remote control systems are now standard for large room heights.
Continuous rooflights open flat roofs
Continuous rooflights also originate from classic industrial and commercial construction. To this day, they are used on roofs in industrial and commercial buildings as a tried-and-tested method of allowing plenty of daylight into production environments. However, the creativity of architects has meant that continuous rooflights are increasingly being used in other types of buildings too. The design of these roof openings is reminiscent of classic skylights - but with continuous rooflights, a whole row is placed behind or next to each other.
Continuous rooflights flood rooms with daylight
The high daylight yield has ensured that continuous rooflights have also found their way from commercial and industrial buildings into high-end residential construction. The market now offers numerous solutions for modern residential construction. Coupled with complex comfort solutions, such continuous rooflights enable large-area lighting options which, in conjunction with electric openings, represent attractive solutions for flat roofs. They can also function as automatic smoke and heat extraction systems.
